Getting There - Stockholm & Helsinki

Stockholm waterfront and Gamla stan - Sweden
We visited briefly in Sweden and Finland before entering the Soviet Union. Our flight from NYC took us to Stockholm, the capital of Sweden. The area in the center of the photo above is Gamla stan ("Old Town"), which was first settled in the Middle Ages. Many of the present buildings in Gamla stan date from the 17th or 18th century, and some are considerably older. The tall building to the left, with the rounded golden cupola, is Stockholm's Stadshuset ("City Hall"). Storkyrkan (the "Great Church") is just left of center, also with a rounded cupola. More photos of both to come.
